Pieces of Me
Perfectly Imperfect
BY KIMBERLY SIMMONS-EMORY
Writing and envisioning pieces of me that were broken and those that were put back together proved that I am a living example of 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (NIV).
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
The complicated details of our lives are often untold or unnoticed, which causes us to cover up or mask who we are. Too often, we present ourselves as unbothered and unbroken, even when our lives are shattered into pieces. But the pains and devastation of our lives have captured the essence of who we have or will become. Every segment of our lives somehow pieces us back together and presents us as an extraordinary masterpiece.
A caterpillar has always been a butterfly, but it must survive the dangers of the world to reach its stage of metamorphosis and become what it has always been. As with you, you have always been beautifully and intricately made in God’s image. But you must endure the hardships and heartbreaks that life presents, and ultimately, you will transform into a unique and exquisite work of the Master – God.
Pieces of Me: Perfectly Imperfect is a work written from the heart of a perfectly imperfect person. As you read my story, I pray you will reevaluate those moments that crushed you and find beauty, courage, strength, and peace within the pieces.
Reviews & Praise
One Word: Eloquent!
Kim shares the intimate details of her life. She reminds us we all experience ups and downs. She writes eloquently of her struggles and how she overcame each one. We are all “perfectly imperfect” and have a purpose. It took me until I was 42 to realize I was “worthy.” I believe this book reinforces that we are on a journey of self-acceptance and love. You are worthy.
This book will help you become a better person
Important reflections on finding peace and gratitude during the toughest of times. Wonderful lessons in accepting yourself and loving others unconditionally. A very powerful book.
As a bonus there are some great homemade recipes included too!
A wonderful life story
Mrs. Simmons-Emory has written a wonderful book that is very relatable by many. She brings us her shattered pieces and gives us a guidebook to bring those pieces back together to become whole. She has shown intelligence, resilience and spiritual wisdom to become the wonderful woman she is today!
Life really is an open book
Written from the mind, body and soul, KS-E takes us on her personal life journey. Sharing that life is about dealing with what God has planned for you and at times the choices one makes to deal with those plans, the book is beautifully written. The title is fitting for anyone on their own personal life journey, and I found that KS-E was able to make me reflect on parallel events in my past as well that have shaped the person I am today. Thank you for the compelling and therapeutic book.
A story of adoption, relationships, challenges, love, faith, ovarian cancer and survivorship!
I loved this book .
Kimberly shares details about her adoption, how she met her husband, found and met her sisters and faced the loss of people she loved. She poignantly shared what it felt like to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer at a young age and the friendships she formed with fellow survivors as a cancer survivor. She highlighted her friendship with Benita, an ovarian cancer survivor.
This book is more than just Kim’s life story it offered glimpses of her faith, thoughts, emotions and advice. You will find the broken pieces of her life as well as the joys. You will see challenges, support and love. At the the back of the book you will find the Treasured Traditions section, a place where Kimberly shares family recipes. I can’t wait to try Thelma’s Glorious Lemon Pound Cake.
