Pieces of Me
Perfectly Imperfect
BY KIMBERLY SIMMONS-EMORY
Writing and envisioning pieces of me that were broken and those that were put back together proved that I am a living example of 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (NIV).
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
The complicated details of our lives are often untold or unnoticed, which causes us to cover up or mask who we are. Too often, we present ourselves as unbothered and unbroken, even when our lives are shattered into pieces. But the pains and devastation of our lives have captured the essence of who we have or will become. Every segment of our lives somehow pieces us back together and presents us as an extraordinary masterpiece.
A caterpillar has always been a butterfly, but it must survive the dangers of the world to reach its stage of metamorphosis and become what it has always been. As with you, you have always been beautifully and intricately made in God’s image. But you must endure the hardships and heartbreaks that life presents, and ultimately, you will transform into a unique and exquisite work of the Master – God.
Pieces of Me: Perfectly Imperfect is a work written from the heart of a perfectly imperfect person. As you read my story, I pray you will reevaluate those moments that crushed you and find beauty, courage, strength, and peace within the pieces.
